I always wanted to be a newspaper guy. When I was 10, I designed, wrote and distributed my first paper, The 110 Terrace News, in my Miami neighborhood. I was on the paper in high school and had my first byline in the now gone Miami News in 1966. That was 45 years ago, folks, when I was 16. The old bastard is still at it at the St. Petersburg Times, where I write about Florida culture. I’ve had my downs and my ups — who hasn’t? — but overall I have no complaints. My sincerest wish is for my younger colleagues to enjoy a long career.
I am a journalist.
