wearejournalists:

I choose to believe journalism and newspaper’s aren’t dying; they’re changing. I embrace the changes and find ways to make journalism work. I choose to see newspapers as a public service, not a product. My life isn’t my job but my job is my life, it’s deeply ingrained in my persona. It’s not just a career choice, but a lifestyle. I use Google and run public record queries on men before going on a first date. I can find any document or record you need, just give me five minutes. I can rattle off the meaning of budget items and explain an indictment. I have seen more crazy things in my 23 years of life than most ever will: crazy wonderful and crazy ridiculous. My car is my office on wheels. I carry two pens and a pencil, in case it rains. I have a box in my car that could get me through any breaking news disaster, some call it my zombie apocalypse kit. I’m the public’s best friend when they like what I’ve written and their worst enemy when one word seems out-of-place. I give a voice when no one else is listening. When everyone else is running away, I run in. I am a newspaper reporter.

Ah, yes, the pencil for when it rains. Love it. It’s also good for when it’s -40 below. Ink freezes.
