If you didn’t make it to our Upstairs show on Thursday with Care Bears on Fire and Blake Nelson, there is still hope: it’ll be up soon on the Barnes and Noble Studio page, probably on Monday or Tuesday. Watch for one of my favorite moments, when I ask the band what school is like for them. You’d think, after all, that coming back to 9th or 10th grade after performing at SXSW, your classmates would either be supremely jealous or in awe.
Nope. None of the above. Instead:
“Everyone was like ‘you missed the math fair,”’ says Sophie, who does lead vocals and guitar.
“Yeah, they were like “Hey, we had pizza. You missed pizza.”’ adds Jena, who plays bass.
My other favorite moment? When Izzie, the world’s most adorable 14-year-old drummer, gets to grill author Blake Nelson on his iconic coming-of-age YA novel “Girl.”
“You wrote the story of my life,” she says, looking right at him. “How did you get inside my head?”
His response?
Ah, for that, you’ll have to go to the tape.
It’ll be up soon. I promise.
